Israeli attacks on Gaza break
Israel agreed to a ceasefire on January 19 after 15 months of attacks. Talks are underway in Doha, Qatar, to extend the ceasefire. But Tuesday’s early morning attacks were far more intense than the drone strikes the Israeli military has carried out in Gaza in the past.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said its workers had recovered at least 86 bodies and taken 134 wounded to hospital. Sixteen members of the same family were killed in Rafah.
Bodies were seen piled up in hospitals, including Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, Al-Aqsa Hospital in the central Gaza Strip and Al-Ahl in Gaza City, covered in blood-stained white plastic sheets.
Hamas said Israel had violated the ceasefire agreement with the brutal attack, leaving the fate of 59 hostages held in Gaza uncertain.
